Many within the social justice movement possess noble intentions, but don’t ever apologise to those who take to Twitter to denounce others- it never helps, and almost always harms- as the more predatory scent blood in the water, and go into a feeding frenzy. A recent article by Quillette shows why- both the Woke Left and the Alt-Right attract a far higher degree of ‘Dark Triad’ personality types than is normal for a population, and given the additional selection criteria of acting to become an ‘influencer’ there is an insane level of risk that amongst those who most assiduously want to denounce you, there is at least one psychopath:
A common criticism of the ultra-progressive Left is that its culture warriors now resemble the right-wing ideological enforcers of yore, excommunicating those deemed to have sinned or performed her… (from the article)
One of the hallmarks of high functioning psychopaths in the corporate environment is that although they be quite talented in specialist or high knowledge roles, they make terrible leaders. One way in which this manifests is in the creation of teams. A normal manager will try to divide the teams as equally as possible, so that teamwork and hard work are the only dimensions which guarantee success and failure.
But corporate psychopaths acting as a managers cannot help themselves- they have a pathological need to create distinct ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams, and then co-opt the higher performing ‘A’ team into bullying their perceived inferiors. It’s a means of constructing camouflage for their own aberrant behaviour patterns, a way of normalising their pathology within their social environment.
In this light, if we take what would normally be a benign and noble movement aimed at genuinely improving the lot of others, and add the additional key element of the struggle for social media supremacy, then we can quickly see how the environment itself acts as a lure to draw in the worst types of people who seem to rapidly rise to the top. Most social media platforms rely upon negative engagement to drive activity, and always reward the loudest voice. It is both an environment built to draw in the corporate psychopath and one guaranteed to ensure their swift elevation to a leadership role.
It is perhaps tragic that what began as a combination of an obscure branch of conflict theory and a perfectly valid, even laudably astute, legal theory mutated into its current form. But the Manichean, them vs. us, nature of conflict theory is unnecessarily divisive. It would appeal to corporate psychopaths though- they are thrill-seekers, have an overly inflated sense of grandiosity, and, although they seem able to supress their aggressive nature more than their violent counterparts, a philosophy which allows them to ‘other’- and make an enemy of- a sizeable portion of the population would be naturally appealing, giving the ample opportunity to sow discord, violence, chaos, mayhem and generally inflict harms on others, at a whim.
It is interesting. If you were too look on YouTube a couple of years ago to find out how to treat a psychopath then you would be surprised at the result. There are no real treatments- or at least that work to remedy the underlying condition. Much of the advice used to consist of ways for clinicians to ensure their personal safety, reduce interactions and keep the psychopath out of their practice.
Don’t ever apologise. At best the corporate psychopath embedded in the social media environment of the social justice movement will take it as a sign of weakness and encourage others to derisive scorn and laughter. At worst you’ve only whet their appetite and they will want to inflict another lesson. Also, don’t agree with any institutional statement which admits fault. It’s not wise for legal reasons.
From social media comments I get, I can see that suggesting non-aggression, liberty, live and let live (real tolerance, not forced elevation of any tiny group's traits), and equal treatment under the law makes me a psychopath because I prefer voluntary choices and communities rather than forced ones. I am sorry that others on the left and right prefer force, use coercion for unity, and demand submission despite my best efforts.
I would think a corporate type psychopath very much in common with a woke indoctrinated stylist.
Perhaps it's a bit like cutting an egg in half and finding that each part of that egg has elements of preference to each and any of us. Or you may not like eggs at all. But most do. So politically speaking it's really the liberal; the heterodox thinker that can maintain a semblance of middle ground and rip apart at the core of things and view the nuances between such extremes, or at least see the dangers before those differences become extremes.
But the corporate psychopathy is individualistic in nature and is an attainable position of one so driven and possessed of ingredients suitable to the psychopath that it's little wonder that the corporate world lacks human empathy, morals, ethics or fair codes of conduct. Nor is it any surprise that such a type fill such positions. The woke left is a herded type of idealist that fits snugly into the psyche of one dreaming like a child unwrapping a Christmas gift and always believing they'll find what they want inside.
One wonders if through modern government, and its left wing propaganda machine if it has turned many liberals into well paid little elves who confusedly wrap up gifts fit for little children.
